Keepa Maskey | Nepal
Keepa M. finished her education from Marymount Manhattan College, NY in 1997. Her grandfather, Krishna Bahadur Chitrakar was an artist from Nepal, he is her initial inspiration to able to experience art as medium self-expression as a child. But, deep down, she think it is her paternal grandmother, Nani Maiya Maskey, who has influenced her throughout the creative journey to break the cultural structure and experiment with a diverse perspective. Perhaps, that connection with her also reflects on her experiential works especially in textiles. - #metood | Keepa Masky

I paint my life to express myself and to record it so that my life does not go unnoticed and yet at the same time, there is a human need to hide certain things, to not tell the world everything about myself. Keeping images to the minimal, often with an interlude of texts/textures, to generate multiple sets . While responding to my surroundings I unleash a pixilated self while choosing and making images. My works may appear mercurial at times due to the stark differences in content, style and medium usage and this adaptability that comes easily to me is my forte and also the most piquant quality in my works, because they provide the viewer an experience of interpretative liberty. One habitual attribute regardless of the medium of expression is to study people, their nature, the hearsays/ proverbs or socio-cultural advocacies, what is often termed as antique sapience (muhavre, kahawat) or wisdom which are relevant even today. Mirror and lights form an important visual element of my work. I like the viewer to see himself/herself reflected in my work and become a part of it, because, what I portray is not one person’s story but the story of many individuals/ societies. Human tendency is to watch oneself closely and in an attempt to do so the viewer comes closer to the work and also observes the finer details. | #NN2

Ashmita Singh| India
I have read Historical Studies at the Nalanda University. My passion for History has remained constant since my initial engagements with the discipline. I believe that there are many doorways that make history accessible to all the other disciplines, one of them being ethnographic studies. My specific interests include documenting and understanding the historical aspects of the diverse forms of folk performances. I have interned on projects with organizations like the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, Rajgir Archaeological Survey Project, and the Archaeological Survey of India. Working at these organisations has taught me the practical application of theoretical knowledge. I have been trained in ethnographical research which has enabled me with an analytical thinking capacity. During my Graduation and Post-graduation, I have become familiar with documentation (on paper, and on camera) work, and writing research papers. I have also been a part of Art and Cine Club, which has given me an exposure to a new perception of thinking. I received a Merit Scholarship in all four semester during my M.A. My interest lies in analysing the performative aspects of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and working with artists in preserving dying cultural heritage. My ambition is to conduct research in Himalayan region, and, also, provide a platform for exchange of knowledge between artists/scholars and local community.
